4:30-6PM

A Story for all of us

  • 6:30-7: Shadow Puppet Experimentation and Performance Preparation
  • 7-7:30: Collaborative Storytelling
  • 7:30-8: Shadow Parade

Join us for a captivating arts experience that explores the beauty of the Anacostia Watershed while celebrating the winter solstice. Become part of a whimsical community shadow puppet storytelling experience and our year's final parade, highlighting the native wildlife of our region. As the enchanting story unfolds, it will illuminate the pressing climate change challenges we face, encouraging you to reflect on ways to enhance the habitats of our wild neighbors during this coming winter season of introspection. This in-person event promises an unforgettable experience for all on the shortest day of the year, artfully blending community and the richness of Earth's darkness in a delightful celebration you won’t want to miss.

This is the ultimate bedtime story, and we are thrilled to use Shadow Puppets, a traditional art form of Bali. Bring a small flashlight (even a phone works), to turn into a meadow of fireflies with other community members. We will bring eyes and wings that you can add to it (temporarily)! And if you are inclined, make a shadow puppet at home to participate in the shadow parade.
